Music from Motion Pictures: 6-Week Online Class

On April 30th (two weeks after our last class), I will open the meeting for a bonus 7th session. This will be a freestyle meeting for Q&A, sharing ideas, and the opportunity to play whatever you're working on for others.

About the Class

This class will be held live online and will be recorded for students to review at their convenience. Recordings will be available for at least 6 months after the class. Classes are 90 minutes with time afterwards for questions and discussions. Registration gains access to all the arrangements and class videos.

Learn crowd-pleasing favorites from iconic motion pictures. Two arrangements for each tune will be provided: one more accessible arrangement for the intermediate or upper-intermediate level. This class may be a stretch for novice players, but all are welcome. Between the written arrangements and the review of class videos, over time, a novice level player will still be able to learn these pieces. My arrangements are always buildable and often encompass hand separation taught from the perspective of a right-hand-lead player. I will also cover further embellishment techniques and arranging ideas during the classes. We will also spend time discussing the chord progressions used by these composers and how these famous motives and popular progressions support story telling.

Included in the price, students will receive licensed copies of sheet music for all of the copyrighted materials covered.

What songs will be covered?

I’ve chosen these selections because I believe they have motives that suit my arranging style for intermediate hammered dulcimer players and provide a canvas for learning and practicing important techniques.

When to Expect Materials

I will send the materials out each week on Monday March 3rd. The zoom link for each week will remain the same for the duration of the class, and I will send it weekly with the sheet music for that week. Each class will be recorded and the recordings will be accessible through 2025.
