Private Music Lessons

If you are interested in learning Hammered Dulcimer or Mountain Dulcimer, I teach private lessons out of my home in Yorkville, IL. Currently I am accepting new students. I prefer to teach on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but am willing to make exceptions, depending on the situation.

  • For adults and teens, lessons are $50 for 1 hour.

  • For younger students (with short attention spans), I offer 30+ minute lessons for $35.

  • For out of town students, I offer lessons online via Zoom. If you are close-ish and want to visit Yorkville, IL for an extended lesson, or an overnight stay with a couple lessons, contact me to discuss.

  • Group Lessons: Contact me.

Lessons are weekly or bi-weekly. If you are interested in monthly, or less frequent lessons, please contact me for pricing.

I work with students of all ages, from ≈7 up. If you have a very young child who is interested in learning to play, I’m happy to assess, but I am more equipped to teach children who have already been introduced to a formal learning setting, whether it be conventional school, or homeschool.

Note for New Hammered Dulcimer Students: If you are brand new to the instrument, I offer a complimentary lesson in tuning on your first day, in addition to your first lesson. After that, time spent tuning will either be added to your lesson, or come at additional cost. Instruments do not need to be fine tuned for lessons, but they should be reasonably in tune. Hammered Dulcimer students are welcome to play my instrument at lessons instead of hauling their own.

Group Workshops

I often travel to teach group workshops and lessons at festivals, and other types of dulcimer gatherings. Follow my facebook page, or contact me directly to find out if I will be near you any time soon.

I’d love to discuss coming to you to teach a workshop at your club, festival, or event. Please contact me about availability, or contact your local club/festival/gathering coordinator to let them know that you’re interested in my workshops.
